SmartPBX – Fanvil X303-2Wire Call Waiting

This guide is for customer administrators who manage phones in the PBX web portal.

B1. What Call Waiting Does

Call waiting controls what happens when a phone is already on a call and a second call comes in.

  • Call waiting ON: the phone can receive a second call. The user will hear a beep or see an indicator and can switch between calls.
  • Call waiting OFF: if the phone is in use, additional callers are sent to voicemail or handled by your “busy” call routing rules.

This setting is controlled per phone through a configuration value in the PBX portal.

B2. Change Call Waiting for a Group of Phones (Shared Profile / Template)

Use this method if your Fanvil X303-2Wire phones share a common profile or template and should all behave the same way.

  1. Sign in to your PBX web portal with an administrator account.
  2. Go to the Device Profiles or Phone Templates section. (The exact name depends on your portal.)
  3. Open the profile that is used by your Fanvil X303-2Wire phones.
  4. Find the area where you can add a custom or advanced setting.
  5. Add the setting:
    • Name: fanvil_call_waiting
    • Value:
      • 1 – turn call waiting ON
      • 0 – turn call waiting OFF
  6. Save the profile.
  7. Reboot or resync the phones so they download the new settings.

All phones using that profile will now follow the same call waiting behavior.

B3. Change Call Waiting on a Single Phone

Use this method when one phone needs different behavior from the others. For example, you might want:

  • Call waiting ON for a receptionist phone.
  • Call waiting OFF for warehouse or lobby phones.
  1. Sign in to your PBX web portal.
  2. Go to the Devices or Phones list.
  3. Find the phone you want to adjust (you can usually search by extension, location, or label).
  4. Edit that phone’s configuration.
  5. In the custom or advanced settings area, add:
    • Name: fanvil_call_waiting
    • Value:
      • 1 – turn call waiting ON for this phone
      • 0 – turn call waiting OFF for this phone
  6. Save the phone settings.
  7. Reboot or resync that specific phone.

Only that phone will change. Other phones will keep using their own settings or the shared profile setting.

B4. Simple Test to Confirm the Setting

  1. From another extension, call the phone you changed and answer the call.
  2. While that call is still active, call the same extension again from a third phone or a mobile.
  3. Check the behavior:
    • If call waiting is ON, the phone will show or beep for the second call.
    • If call waiting is OFF, the second call should go to voicemail or follow your busy rules.
